The cliché that life begins at 40 could never have been further from the truth.  The age of 40 is when life is at its peak, just before beginning a downward climb, health wise.  If you are palling to build your body and stay fit at 40, you have to know that your body will not be in the same shape that it was when you were 20; there will then be cause to do things differently.
Before you even start a fitness program at over 40, you have to be psychologically prepared and understand how different your body organs are and how certain exercises will affect them.  You will also find it necessary to adjust your meals since your metabolism rate will be low and most importantly, you have to do the right exercises for your muscles.  Not all exercises will be beneficial at 40, you should especially stay away from the heavy lifting exercises, long distance sprinting and other exercises that are very taxing to the muscles and the lungs.
